Some babies feel especially long-awaited.
Amelia is one of them.
I first met Nikki and Jared last fall when I photographed their maternity session.
They are such a fun couple. Easy to laugh. The kind of people you settle into conversation with quickly.
At the same time, they have this quiet steadiness about them. The kind of calm that usually comes after walking through a lot together.
Seeing them again for Amelia’s newborn photos felt a little like watching the next chapter finally arrive.
Nikki and Jared, thank you for trusting me with this. Truly. It means a lot.
Amelia’s newborn photos took place in their home in Nampa during a calm Nampa newborn photography session.

How Amelia Got Her Name
Amelia’s name actually started in the most everyday way.
Nikki was helping teach a 4-H kindergarten yoga class, and one of the little girls was named Amelia.
She told me, “We really liked the name.”
Sometimes that’s how it happens. You hear a name and it sticks.
Later they found out Amelia was also Jared’s great-grandmother’s name on his mom’s side. A name they loved that was already part of their family story.

Her Birth Story
Amelia made her entrance a little earlier than expected.
Nikki had to be induced for medical reasons. After 12 hours and a natural birth, their baby girl arrived safe and healthy.
Safe and healthy.
After everything they walked through to get here, that’s what mattered most.

A Long Road to This Baby
This wasn’t a simple journey.
Nikki shared that this pregnancy was long awaited.
After an early miscarriage, they chose to move forward with IVF. There were unsuccessful rounds. There were losses. Years of waiting.
They were careful about sharing the news.
Understandably.
But around 10 weeks, Nikki said, “We knew we were bringing this baby home.”
Soon after, they told their families their prayers had been answered.
Amelia isn’t just their baby.
She’s the season they’ve been waiting for.

Who Does She Look Like?
Right now?
“Definitely Jared!” Nikki said.
She also told me she hopes Amelia turns blonde, which made me smile.
No matter what, she is already completely herself.

The Best Part So Far
When I asked what they’ve loved most about becoming parents, Nikki didn’t hesitate.
“All the sweet baby snuggles!”
And lately Amelia has started to smile.
Nikki told me, “I can’t wait for her spicy and sweet personality to shine.”
Spicy and sweet.
I love that.
You can already see little hints of it.

Ten Years Together
This year Nikki and Jared will celebrate their 10th anniversary.
For a long time it was just the two of them and their four-legged babies.
Now they can’t imagine life without Amelia.
Nikki said it best.
“She has stolen our hearts.”
You can see it in the way Jared holds Amelia.
In the way Nikki looks at her.
This is a family that waited.
And now their sweet girl is here and I couldn’t be happier for them!

Remembering These Newborn Days
Nikki and Jared, thank you again for letting me document these early days with Amelia.
These newborn weeks are a blur in the best and hardest ways. The snuggles, the tiny stretches, the way they fit right into your arms.
